Bright Star

Based on the true story of 19th century poet John Keats and his three-year romance with Fanny Brawne, this literary biopic from Oscar-winner Jane Campion (The Piano)  also stars UNCSA alum Paul Schneider, who has amassed an impressive array of striking and distinctive film roles. Following the screening, Schneider will participate in a discussion about the film and his career, and will be presented with RiverRun’s 2012 Emerging Master Award.

Keep the Lights On

Directed by: Ira Sachs, USA, 101 minutes, Rating: MT

This intense film follows the relationship between Erik and his closeted lover Paul. What begins as a highly charged first sexual encounter soon becomes something much more. As the two start building a home and life together, each continues to privately battle their own compulsions and addictions. 

See Girl Run

Directed by: Nate Meyer, USA, 89 minutes, Rating: MT

Starring dynamic talents Robin Tunney (The Mentalist) and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Party Down), this film by UNCSA grad Nate Meyer comically illuminates the problems of letting the “what ifs” of past romances get in the way of the love that is right in front of your face.  Director to be in attendance for screenings

The Art of Love (L'art d'aimer)

Directed by: Emmanuel Mouret, France, 85 minutes, Rating: MT

The importance of sex within a relationship is highlighted through a string of people engaged in intrigues of the heart. Multiple story lines - from the serious wife who wants to help her friends by entrusting them with her husband's care to the bachelor who can't make up his mind about his teasing yet prude young neighbor - explore whether lust can be separated from love and shows how difficult it is to untwine the two. This is the third Mouret film (after Shall We Kiss? (2009) and Please, Please Me! (2010)) to be screened at RiverRun.

The Good Doctor

Directed by: Lance Daly, USA, 93 minutes, Rating: PG-13

Orlando Bloom stars as a socially aloof doctor who befriends a pretty young patient with a kidney infection. He likes having her around so much, in fact, that he starts tampering with her treatment in order to keep her sick and in the hospital near him.

Workers Leaving the Factory (Arbeiter Verlassen die Fabrik)

Directed by: Anna Linke, Germany, 10 minutes, Rating: MT

In a style that recalls the early films efforts of the famous film pioneers the Lumière Brothers, this sweet short film follows Karin, who works in a metal factory and day to day must perform meaningless and routine tasks. When a new co-worker joins the factory, however, her days become much more exhilarating as she awaits his daily greetings.

Wuthering Heights

Directed by: Andrea Arnold, UK, 129 minutes, Rating: MT

The fearless Andrea Arnold, director of 2009’s critically-acclaimed Fish Tank, reinvents Emily Bronte’s epic love story in a fresh, visually arresting way.  A poor boy of unknown origins is taken in by the Earnshaw family, where he develops an intense relationship with his foster sister, Cathy.   Director Andrea Arnold to be in attendance for all three screenings!
